The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW or Parlamentarikerforum för lätta vapen-frågor) is an international network of parliamentarians dedicated to the issue of small arms and light weapons and their impact on societies.
The Parliamentary Forum provides a space for parliamentarians to debate, join forces, and contribute to the advancement of the small arms agenda at the national, regional and international levels. Today, the Parliamentary Forum accounts for more than 200 members representing all ends of the political spectrum and countries in Africa, North and South America, the Middle East and Europe.
The work of the Forum is supported by a Secretariat which provides for the administration of the Forum; capacity building of its members to enable them to effectively advance SALW issues; and policy-making technical expertise.
When? For how long? Scope?
OBS! Position already filled. (Start February 16th 2012. Min. 2 months, Max. 6 months. Full-time or Min. 2 days (16 hours) a week.)
Interns contribute to the ongoing operations of the organisation, implementation of project activities and research. They may also contribute to the development of new projects.
Interns are offered the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of SALW issues, parliamentary action, and the functioning of a non-profit organisation.
While the Parliamentary Forum will attempt to engage interns in the areas that best match their interests, interns are required to be flexible in their assignments.
Graduate or recent graduate students with a background in law or political science. Particular interest in the issue of conflict prevention and violence reduction. Strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
Specialisation in conflict or peace studies, as well as human rights. Experience working with human rights, peacebuilding, Knowledge of Swedish, Spanish, French, Arabic.
