3 december, 2012 - kl. 14:00 till 15:30
IDEA and FUF invite you to the seminar:
Democracy and Development
– with Dr Alina Rocha Menocal, Research Fellow with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI)
The relationship between democracy and development is a question that has preoccupied academics and policymakers alike for several decades, and it remains a hotly contested issue. There is an implicit assumption in current international development thinking and practice that processes to promote development and democracy are linear and mutually reinforcing. However, as laudable as both these objectives are, it is essential to understand that these processes may interact in more complex ways, and that different tensions, challenges and trade-offs may emerge. This also has implications for how donors seek to support these two goals.
Mr Vidar Helgesen, Secretary-General of International IDEA, will make opening remarks and Ms Helena Bjuremalm, Senior Programme Manager Democracy and Development, IDEA, and Board Member of FUF, leads the discussion.
