Om filmen: On 22 June 2010, the Secretary-General appointed a Panel of Experts to investigate alleged violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in the last stages of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka. On 31 March 2011, the Panel of the UN reported having found credible allegations of serious violations of international humanitarian law by both government forces and the LTTE. He found evidence that government forces committed murder and torture, or deliberate attacks or indiscriminate and disproportionate against civilians, attacks against health personnel or humanitarian workers, let the population starved and denied him access to humanitarian aid and orchestrated disappearances, falling within war crimes and crimes against humanity. In the light of these findings, the Panel recommended that the UN Secretary-General to establish an independent international mechanism to investigate abuses on both sides which would have resulted in 40,000 deaths. This documentary broadcast in June 2011 by the UK’s Channel 4 is made of poignant interviews of witnesses masked face, new photographs, Sri Lankan army official videos and satellite images proves conclusively that there urgency for the establishment of an international inquiry. The documentary raises serious questions about the consequences if the UN fails to act, not only in regard to Sri Lanka, but also to future violations of international law.
