4 maj, 2015 - kl. 14:00 till 17:00

The Institute of Latin American Studies at Stockholm University, the Swedish Development Forum (FUF) and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) invite you to the seminar

Poverty and inequality reduction in Latin America
– a sustainable paradigm shift?

During the last two decades poverty and income inequality has decreased substantially in Latin America. Budget allocations for social expenditure have increased and the middle class has grown. What are the main explanations behind this development which contrasts with the picture of Latinamerica as the continent with the highest degree of inequality? Did these changes have an impact on the strengthening of democracy and governability? Can the situation be sustained in an era of less overall economic growth? Are there lessons that can be transfered to other regions?
